UNITED NATIONS OCEAN CONFERENCE
The third UN Ocean Conference (UNOC) was a key moment for world leaders to deliver on their commitment to protect and conserve at least 30% of the world’s ocean by 2030 (30×30). The overarching theme of the conference was “accelerating action and mobilising all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean”. The conference worked towards a “Nice Ocean Action Plan”, which included a declaration and new voluntary commitments.
Together for the Ocean organizations were out in force at UNOC calling for ambitious action and commitments towards achieving the global 30×30 goal.

30×30 policy priorities
30×30 is a global target to protect and conserve at least 30% of the world’s land, freshwater and ocean by 2030, adopted under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022.
30×30 is the most ambitious conservation commitment ever made, but the science is clear: it is our only opportunity to safeguard the ocean’s biodiversity and the communities that depend on it. Achieving 30×30 will also help preserve the ocean’s ability to act as our greatest ally against the climate crisis.
